The Chatswood commercial core and the towers around it combine older strata stock with a lot of development from the last two decades. Between them they produce a steady pattern of long-running, hard-to-locate leaks alongside sudden escape-of-water events.
The characteristic Chatswood job is not a burst pipe with an obvious source. It is a building manager who has a damp wall in one lot, a stained ceiling in another, and no clear idea what connects them. Water in a high-rise travels along slab edges, down service penetrations and through cavity spaces, and it can appear a long way from the defect.
